NASPA Consortium Assessment Results for 2011-12
Use of NASPA Consortium Assessment Results for 2011-12
This past spring, Residential Education participated in the NASPA Consortium Survey for Residence Life which is a tool utilized by numerous institutions across the nation in order to provide Residence Life departments with information which will assist us in serving you, the students more effectively.
Thanks to all of you who participated in this survey and provided us with valuable information on how to further develop our services and programs. From the results of the survey we have targeted the following areas to improve upon as part of our goals for the academic year:
Multicultural Programming and Education: The results of the survey demonstrated that students have not received the amount of education necessary to develop comfort in dealing with issues of diversity. Since our University Strategic Plan wishes for us to create citizens who are capable of thriving in a global society, we will create and offer more programs and interactions at both large and small levels which will increase opportunities for growth in this area. For example, we will be offering two large scale diversity events per semester. We are also focusing an entire month of programming for our Resident Assistants on issues of Multicultural Competence. In addition, our Resident Assistants will undergo monthly diversity trainings above and beyond what they receive in their initial training.
Staff to Resident Relationships: We need to improve in both the interactions between our Resident Assistant staff and residents as well as that of our professional staff with residents. Most students reported not having knowledge or much interaction with our Residential Education staff and we will put measures in place to increase the opportunities for these interactions with our increased programming efforts and new programming model. For a more detailed description of this programming model, please see our website.
Development of Student Employees (Resident Assistants): Residential Education has revamped our training and in-service programs to better accommodate the millennial student as a Resident Assistant. We hope that these efforts will improve the development of the student in the RA position, their preparation for the future, as well as increase RA to student positive interactions. These efforts will include the use of a specific rubric which will be managed by their supervisors, and individual meetings with the Resident Assistants 8 separate times during the academic year.
This is a synopsis of what we hope to accomplish through our goals for the coming academic year. Look here for a detailed review of the Residential Education 2011-12 goals.
