Welcome, current Bulldogs! We are excited that you are choosing to stay on-campus, or return to campus, for the upcoming academic year.

Housing Application Process for Current Residential Students

Current residential students can reapply for 2024-2025 housing, beginning February 15.

On February 15, please log into One Port, select “Campus Housing”, “Housing Portal”, and “Apply for On-Campus Housing”,  and choose the “Continuing Student” button.

Please note: A new version of Safari, released in September 2020, is not compatible with our housing software. Please use Google Chrome to complete your housing application and subsequent room selection.

Details and Deadlines

  • The reapplication process will begin on February 15.
  • Students who want to retain their current room, can do so at the time of reapplication, through March 14th. If you do not retain at the time you reapply, you will not be able to retain later, so please consider your options carefully. Please note that some rooms are not eligible for retention.
  • Room selection will begin March 19 and will close on March 31. Students who do not select a room during the selection period will not be guaranteed housing for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Re-Application Process

  • In order to participate in room selection, all students must have a completed housing application on file. Applications completed by March 14 will receive an email from our office with your room selection time.
  • Love your current room? You can opt to retain your current room at the time of reapplication (some spaces are not retainable for various reasons). Retention is only available at the time you complete your housing application. Once you retain, you have an assignment and are bound to the terms and conditions of the Housing contract.
  • Applications received after March 14, will be reviewed on a space-available basis.
  • Log in to your OnePort account and select “On Campus”  and then “Housing Portal” on the left side of the page. Under the “Apply for Campus Housing”, make sure you are selecting the “Continuing Student” button.
  • Follow the instructions on each page and use the navigation button at the bottom of each page to progress to the next. Once your application has been successfully submitted, you will receive an email to your UNC Asheville email address. You can update your housing application until room selection begins. After that, no further updates can be made to your application.

Roommate Groups

Creating a Roommate Group

If you have another UNC Asheville student you wish to live with, you can create a Roommate Group. The benefit of a roommate group, is that one person in the group can make the room selection for everyone who has accepted the invitation to join the group, during room selection. It is recommended that the person with the earliest selection time, be the one to select for the group. Important information regarding Roommate Groups:

  • To invite someone to your group, the student must have already applied for housing.
  • You can only belong to one Roommate Group at a time.
  • When you are invited to join a group, you will get an email and must accept or decline the invitation. If you do not accept, you are not part of the group.
  • A Roommate Group does not guarantee you housing.
  • A Roommate Group does not hold a space for you with others in your Roommate Group.
  • During room selection, if you are part of a Roommate Group, you will only be able to see suites with enough room to accommodate your entire group.
  • If one person in the Roommate Group selects housing on their own, the rest of the group members will not be able to select housing and must leave the group.
  • First time freshmen cannot live in the Woods or the Village, so if you are in a roommate group with a new, incoming freshmen, you will not be able to select in those areas.

My College Roomie (MCR)

We have partnered with My College Roomie (MCR), a roommate finder/matching social media platform, to help you find a roommate, or just a way to connect with other incoming students and make new friends!

Please be on the lookout for an email to your UNCA email address, inviting you to join MCR. Once you join, you can begin searching for and finding new roommates or friends. Once you find a roommate and/or suitemates, you can then create a roommate group in your housing portal.

Please note that finding a roommate on MCR OR creating a roommate group in the housing portal, does not guarantee placement with a specific person or group. You will still need to participate in room selection to secure on-campus housing.

You are not required to join MCR – this is simply another opportunity for you to search for a potential roommate. If you have already created a roommate group in the housing portal, you will not need to also to upload a profile in MCR, but it can also be a great way to find new friends.

Room Selection Process For All Current Students

Room Selection for the 2024-2025 academic year will begin on March 19. Students will receive an email about selection times before selection begins.  Your selection time is based on the date of your completed housing application and contract. Your designated selection time is your first and best opportunity to obtain the space you are hoping for. The deadline to select your room is 11:59 pm on March 31. Students who do not select by the deadline will have their application cancelled and will not be guaranteed housing for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Room Selection

  • Once you have selected a room, you will receive an email with your housing assignment and the name of your roommate, if one has already selected into the room. You can view your assignment and roommate information at any time by logging into OnePort, selecting “Housing Portal”, “Profile Information”, and “View My Roommate(s).”
  • Students who submit a housing application and do not participate in selection of a room will have their application cancelled. Once you have an assignment, all charges associated with breach of contract will be enforced. This includes those who have opted to retain their current on-campus room. Learn more about breach of contract.
  • Once you have selected your room, or you, you are bound to the terms and conditions of the Housing Contract. Any cancellation of your contract for an unapproved reason will result in breach of contract and other charges. Learn more about cancellation of your housing assignment.

Selecting a Roommate/Suite Mate

During room selection, you will be able to see student information, including name, age, and the answers to their roommate preference questions of students who are already assigned to a bed space and/or suite, to assist you in choosing a roommate. Please keep in mind that other students are going through the room selection process, and can assign themselves to any available space on campus that is open to them during selection.

Remember, current students have priority room selection, as you are able to select housing prior to new, incoming students, who do not select until June. Incoming students will be self-selecting their own housing this summer, and can and will choose vacancies in your room/suite. You can check your roommate/suitemate information at any time in the Housing portal.

Roommate Group

The benefit of a roommate group is that one person in the group can make the room selection for everyone who has accepted the invitation to join the group, during room selection. It is recommended that the person with the earliest selection time, be the one to select for the group. Important information regarding Roommate Groups:

  • A Roommate Group does not guarantee you housing.
  • You are not guaranteed a specific residence hall, room, or suite.
  • A Roommate Group does not hold a space for you with others in your Roommate Group. If the spaces are not selected for the group, any vacancy in the room/suite can be selected by other students.
  • During room selection, if you are part of a Roommate Group, you will only be able to see suites with enough room to accommodate your entire group.
  • If one person in the Roommate Group selects housing on their own, the rest of the group members will not be able to select housing and must leave the group to continue with self-selection.

You will have the opportunity to change rooms until 11:59 pm May 15. After the deadline, the next available opportunity will be the official Room Change Request period, which happens after the start of the fall semester.

Meal Plan Selection

  • Residential students are required to have a meal plan, with the exception of those students living in the Woods.
  • Residential students (except Woods residents) will be defaulted to the Unlimited+50 plan.
  • You can view meal plan rates for the 2024-2025 academic year and view details of our current meal plans at DineOnCampus.
